Michael S. D’Angelo is the Lead Consultant and Principal for Secure Direction Consulting, LLC. He has been in the public safety and private security industries for over 25 years. Before transitioning into security management, Mr. D’Angelo was a Police Captain, serving 20+ years with the South Miami Florida Police Department. During his law enforcement career, he served in a variety of specialized units and gained significant managerial experience as a supervisor, middle manager, and senior commanding officer.
D’Angelo holds an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice Administration (Miami-Dade College) as well as a Bachelor's degree in Social and Criminal Justice (Ashford University). Additionally, he is a graduate of the prestigious Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Course from the University of Louisville. Upon transitioning to the private security profession, D’Angelo was hired as the Corporate Security Manager for Baptist Health South Florida where he served as an internal consultant for security and emergency preparedness to six hospitals and a multitude of outpatient/non- hospital facilities.
To succeed at his transition from Police professional to Security professional, D'Angelo achieved both Board Certification in Security Management (CPP) and Board Certification in Security Consulting (CSC). Expanding his expertise in the healthcare sector, he went on to achieve both the Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator and Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional designations.
Throughout his law enforcement career and continuing in his security management profession, D'Angelo continues to be a dedicated researcher and course developer in the area of active shooter/workplace violence. Enhancing his training in this areas, he studied for and achieved the Workplace Violence Prevention Specialist Certification from the National Association of Safety Professionals.
Mr. D’Angelo is a member of several professional associations including ASIS International, where he serves on both the Healthcare Security Council; helping to develop guidelines and standards for the industry, as well as the Transitions Council; aiding police and military veterans transitioning into the private sector. He is the published author of a book and multiple industry articles. He is frequently called upon by a variety of media for interviews on security related topics. D’Angelo volunteers providing advice, guidance, and mentoring to transitioning law enforcement and military personnel who wish to enter the private sector security field.
